Every full seed harbors a season of harvest within it.
Today is Arbor Day, and on this vibrant day, Carbonstop has completed its 2023 corporate carbon inventory and achieved carbon neutrality for 2023. This marks the twelfth consecutive year of carbon neutrality for Carbonstop!
In 2023, Carbonstop profoundly implemented the CREOS corporate carbon neutrality methodology, achieving carbon neutrality in company operations across five dimensions: Calculating, Reducing, Engaging, Offsetting, and Spreading. This year, Carbonstop integrated carbon reduction actions into every aspect of the company, ensuring that carbon neutrality is more than just a slogan.
-- Calculating Calculating
Carbon inventory is the foundation of carbon neutrality.
In 2023, Carbonstop further expanded the scope of the inventory, adding calculations for upstream transportation and distribution under Scope 3 Category 4, while refining the data granularity. For this year's carbon emission inventory, the Carbonstop team continued to use the Carbonstop inventory model established on Carbon Cloud Ccloud, adding new emission sources to the model. Data was imported through templates, generating carbon emission results and reports to clearly track changes in carbon emissions.
Due to Carbonstop's principle of resource circulation and reuse, most capital goods were repaired or recycled, resulting in a reduction of 46.32 tons of carbon emissions under Scope 3 Category 2, accounting for about 76.17% of the overall reduction.
From the overall carbon emission results for the past year, it is evident that Carbonstop's carbon emissions have further decreased. In 2023, Carbonstop emitted a total of 139.537 tons of CO2 equivalents, a reduction of about 30.36% compared to 2022!
Reducing Reducing
-- Reducing Reducing
In 2023, the company continued to actively practice a low-carbon culture, promoting low-carbon commuting, low-carbon offices, low-carbon business travel, and low-carbon procurement.
The company encourages employees to adopt more environmentally friendly means of transportation, such as buses and subways. Additionally, the company promotes electronic office work, reducing the use of paper documents to minimize paper waste and related carbon emissions.
In terms of low-carbon business travel, the company emphasizes choosing environmentally friendly transportation and accommodation options. For example, prioritizing low-emission transportation like high-speed rail and electric vehicles; for accommodation, selecting hotels or homestays that meet environmental standards to avoid excessive resource consumption and waste generation. In procurement, the company gives priority to products and materials with environmental certifications, low energy consumption, and low emissions.
-- Engaging Engaging
Engaging employees, partners, and consumers in carbon reduction actions is a crucial part of a company's commitment to carbon neutrality.
In August 2023, we launched the world's first sustainable consumption platform—Low-Carbon Heroes, dedicated to making green consumption a daily and widespread practice. All products on the platform come with carbon footprint or carbon reduction data, allowing consumers to make more informed and responsible purchasing decisions based on real environmental data, rather than relying solely on surface information and advertising. Low-Carbon Heroes has been well-received by many consumers and has become an important platform for companies to choose low-carbon gifts for green meetings.
For the 2023 TAG Project (The Annual Green Project), Carbonstop chose to issue and accept electronic invoices as receipts for partners, clients, and suppliers. By the end of 2024, we will publicly disclose detailed data on this initiative, showcasing the amount of carbon emissions reduced over the year.
This year, every employee began attaching a carbon reduction label to each email sent, turning each email into a daily reminder of the carbon emissions saved by electronic reading compared to printing on paper, and encouraging recipients to reduce paper printing.
At the Carbonstop 2024 Annual Meeting, we grandly launched the "Carbonstop Corporate Public Welfare Walk" project, putting our social responsibility and environmental commitment into action. Thereafter, the company will organize all employees to participate in a public welfare project each year. As the opening act of the project, we chose to plant trees in a park together this year. This tree-planting activity is a heartfelt declaration to the Earth on Arbor Day. By planting each sapling with our hands, we sow seeds of hope for a greener future.
-- Offsetting Offsetting
For unavoidable carbon emissions, Carbonstop fully offset them by purchasing high-quality carbon credits and carbon assets.
Carbonstop adopted six offset methods, including China Certified Emission Reductions (CCER), Certified Emission Reductions (CER) under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), Verified Emission Reductions (VERs) under the Verra International Verified Carbon Standard, and the Gold Standard (GS) managed by the Gold Standard Foundation and non-profit organizations. These methods were used to achieve "diverse" carbon neutrality.
For Scope 2 emissions from purchased electricity, we offset the entire purchase by buying green power generated by the Xiangzhou Fuzhuang 100MW Agri-PV Complementary Power Generation Project operated by CGN New Energy Xiangyang Co., Ltd.
Carbonstop also carefully and strictly selected and sponsored the Gold Standard (GS) Brazil Ceara Renewable Energy Project. This project provides biomass fuel to local factories to replace illegal firewood, reducing deforestation caused by the collection of firewood and supporting reforestation, avoiding 50,536 tCO2e of greenhouse gas emissions annually.
Besides purchasing offset projects, Carbonstoppers successfully planted a larch tree on Ant Forest after a year of joint efforts.
-- Spreading Spreading
This year, the company implemented carbon labels across all scenarios.
Whether it's the company's furniture or WeChat articles, they will carry the weight of their own carbon footprint, reminding every person who sees them to reduce their personal carbon emissions as much as possible. Scientific and rigorous numbers transparently convey fresh low-carbon concepts to every friend who visits Carbonstop.
At the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP28 in December 2023, Carbonstop joined hands with socially responsible Chinese enterprises and institutions to share China's carbon neutrality experience. At the conference, Carbonstop showcased its innovative practices and achievements in carbon management and released Carbon AI, conveying to the international community the determination and actions of Chinese enterprises in addressing climate change and promoting sustainable development.
Today, Arbor Day, also marks the twelfth consecutive year of carbon neutrality for Carbonstop. From the beginning of its establishment to today, Carbonstop has consistently walked the path of "dual carbon," never pausing.
May the grass grow lush and the mountains be green, may the new greenery grow into a full and vibrant world.
